It started with pizza.
Ashley and Adam didn't just have a wedding. They had a whole weekend in Tuscany with their favorite people, and somewhere in the middle of it there happened to be a ceremony.
The night before was a joining of families from both The United States and Sweden, collectively living the dolce far niente life : pizza from a wood oven, live musicians, Aperol, children who refused to go to bed. The kind of dinner that makes everyone feel like they live like this all the time. Because they do.
The wedding itself was in a garden that had been waiting its whole life for exactly this. Adam watched Ashley walk through the trees toward him and absolutely lost it, in the best way. The peonies were absurd. The string quartet was in pink.
Later — much later — she changed into a gold beaded dress and the grotto doors opened and there was a DJ and a saxophone player and lasers and nobody went home when they were supposed to.
The next morning there was a gelato van at the pool. Because of course there was.
This is what it looks like when people who know how to live, get married in Italy.
