If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

A Wedding Day Is About More Than Just Two People: Capturing Family Connections

September 21, 2024

Weddings are often thought of as a celebration of two people coming together. But in reality, weddings are about so much more than that. They’re about families—about the blending of traditions, the bonds that tie us together, and the shared moments of joy and celebration. As a wedding photographer, I believe in capturing not just the love between a couple, but the connection and relationships within the family as well.

For me, family moments are some of the most powerful images from any wedding day. These are the moments that add depth to the story of your celebration—the father’s proud glance, the mother’s tearful smile, the siblings’ playful teasing. These moments will live on long after the wedding day, becoming a part of your family’s history.

The beauty of wedding photography is that it creates a visual legacy, not just for the couple but for future generations. Decades from now, these photos will be looked at by children, grandchildren, and even those who haven’t been born yet. That’s why I pay close attention to the interactions between family members throughout the day, capturing both the big moments and the quieter, more intimate ones.

One wedding stands out in my memory. The bride’s grandparents were there, and I made sure to capture moments between them and their granddaughter. During the reception, there was a quiet moment when the grandfather, who had been silently watching, reached out to hold his granddaughter’s hand. It was a simple gesture, but it held a lifetime of love and connection. That photo became one of the bride’s favorites because it wasn’t just about the day—it was about family.

Family is at the heart of every wedding, and my goal is to preserve those connections for you and your loved ones. Let’s talk about how I can capture the heart of your family’s story and turn it into something timeless.

MEET
April

Photographer, wife, mother, reader of Jane Austen and historical romance, lover of Jesus and your dog.

I’m April — a wedding and fashion photographer drawn to beauty that doesn’t ask for attention. My work is rooted in emotional honesty, editorial intention, and the belief that photographs should feel like memory: textured, tender, and true.

Clients come to me for my eye, but stay for the calm, grounded experience. I’ll notice the way your partner reaches for your hand. I’ll straighten your train before the doors open. I’ll catch your grandmother watching you with tears in her eyes — and you’ll have the photograph forever.

Based in Texas, often found in New York, London, or wherever love is dressed to the nines. I take on a limited number of commissions each year so every story gets the space it deserves.
