NOTE —

If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

Creating a Comfortable Experience: Helping Couples Feel at Ease in Front of the Camera

September 21, 2024

It’s completely normal to feel nervous in front of the camera—especially on a day as important as your wedding. Many of my clients tell me they’re not “camera people,” and that they worry about feeling awkward or unnatural in their wedding photos. But I truly believe that’s when you deserve to feel the most like yourself. My goal as a photographer is to help you relax, have fun, and enjoy your day so that your photos reflect the real connection and joy you share.

A key part of my approach is creating a comfortable, stress-free environment. I start by getting to know my clients well before the wedding day, helping them feel at ease by building trust. I encourage natural movements and moments—whether it’s sharing a laugh during portraits or just taking a quiet moment to breathe together. My job is to guide you gently, ensuring you don’t feel stiff or overly posed.

I often hear from couples after their wedding that they were surprised by how relaxed they felt. One couple, in particular, told me they had been dreading the photo session, but once we started, it felt like hanging out with a friend. They laughed, they connected, and they forgot about the camera altogether. That comfort allowed them to be themselves, which led to photos that felt genuine and captured their true connection.

Comfort is key to creating beautiful, authentic photos. When you feel at ease, your real emotions shine through, and the result is a gallery of images that reflect the joy, love, and connection of your day.

If you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, let’s talk. My goal is to help you feel at ease so that your photos reflect the beauty of the day and the connection you share. Let’s create something beautiful together.

BEHIND THE LENS

MEET
April

Photographer, wife, mother, reader of Jane Austen and historical romance, lover of Jesus and your dog.

I’m April — a wedding and fashion photographer drawn to beauty that doesn’t ask for attention. My work is rooted in emotional honesty, editorial intention, and the belief that photographs should feel like memory: textured, tender, and true.

Clients come to me for my eye, but stay for the calm, grounded experience. I’ll notice the way your partner reaches for your hand. I’ll straighten your train before the doors open. I’ll catch your grandmother watching you with tears in her eyes — and you’ll have the photograph forever.

Based in Texas, often found in New York, London, or wherever love is dressed to the nines. I take on a limited number of commissions each year so every story gets the space it deserves.
