When we were dreaming this session up, my clients knew that they wanted urban, sexy elegance. Fast paced downtown Houston was the perfect option, so when I went to dream up their photoshoot locations, I thought about what makes Downtown Houston so unique. We decided to stick to the classic locations including rooftops, metro stations, and the lights on Houston Main Street for our elegant and cool downtown engagement session.

When you’re thinking about your perfect engagement session vibe, here are 3 key things to think through ::

1. What is the overall feeling you’d like to have when you look at your photos in a year, 5 years, or even 50 years down the road? Do you want urban chic or natural serenity? is there a location that means a lot to you that you’d like to pay homage to in your photos? Think through how you’d like the photos to feel and work out from there.
2. What styling would you like? It wouldn’t have made much sense for this urban chic downtown Houston shoot to have been styled with jeans and t-shirts. nor would it make much sense to have a suit and tie on at a river bank. What type of styling would say the most about you?
3. When you think about photos that you’ve loved – whether that be in Vogue Magazine or on Pinterest or even photos that you’ve had taken before – what were they like? We can change our minds and our styles according to the season of life we’re in, but many times we already know what we like and that’s a good place to start!
